6810-1: Laser Ranger, 1989. Small ship with posable wings and thrusters. Cool use of goblet pieces as thrusters.

Star Quest came packaged with Castle (Smuggler’s Hayride) and Town (Flyer Cracker USA) sets.

1974-4: Star Quest, 1989. Cool flyer with movable wings.

Two moving functions in Message Intercept Base (6987) implemented via Technic rack winders (a hallmark of some of the best Space sets from 1987-93).

Astro Dart and Lunar MPV were sold packaged together as “Space Combi-Pack”

Lunar MPV has a very cool steering mechanism that was only ever used in one other space set. Bonus points for upside down building.

1621-1: Lunar MPV, 1989. I quite like this bilaterally asymmetrical little truck and its robot.

1620-1: Astro Dart, 1989. Cute simple scooter with adjustable wings and thrusters.

If only there was someone or something to combat the spread of this Blacktron plague! (Hint: stay tuned for 1989)

That’s a wrap for the 9 space sets from 1988 (7 Futuron + 2 Blacktron). Next up: 1989
