6880-1: Surface Explorer, 1982. Business in the front, party in the back! First yellow astronaut. This set goes all in on the new balloon tires.

…and that’s the 6 LEGO Space sets from 1981. Next up: 1982.

6929-1: Starfleet Voyager, 1981. Wasp-waisted mid-sized spaceship w/ Concorde-style angled nose, cargo storage in the rear, and plenty of accessories.

6927-1: All-Terrain Vehicle, 1981. Blue windscreens! 💙 Ground vehicle that deploys a base via a clever mechanism. Rocket-propelled because space!

6870-1: Space Probe Launcher, 1981. Articulated ground vehicle with a small flying wedge. Neat small set but needs another astronaut.

6842-1: Small Space Shuttle Craft, 1981. Like riding a rocket. Sort of a speeder bike two years before Return of the Jedi showed us how speeder bikes could be.

6822-1: Space Digger, 1981. Sort of like a space backhoe? Compact but functional. ❤️ the grabber jaws.

6801-1: Moon Buggy, 1981. How is this a buggy w/o wheels? Cool use of radar dish. Nice to get two accessories and a printed slope in such a small set.

That’s it for LEGO Space 1980. Next up: 1981.
