Finally able to see comet NEOWISE tonight. Light pollution still a problem but at least the clouds cleared and it was high enough in the sky to be seen despite our being in a valley. (It blows my mind that I can capture this image with a cellphone.)

Today’s view from the Hochwacht (normally you can see two lakes)

Second training hike, on a rainy day— Zugerberg Hochwacht: 8.3km, 300m ascent, 2h10m, 12°C.

(We’re getting in shape for a 3 day/2 night excursion in August to the high alpine valleys of the Urbachtal region of Switzerland. We’ll get to help care for horses and a flock of 1,100 sheep!)
During our hike today we crossed this dilapidated footbridge. I think this part of the trail isn’t used much!

Time to get back in shape! First training hike was to go up the Zugerberg: 7.4km, 400m ascent, 2h20m, 13°C. Nice forested walk with some partial views of Lake Zug.

Switzerland will finally make mask-wearing mandatory on public transport due to the recent uptick in coronavirus cases. Now do all public places!
In other news I have just invented “pizza dippers”. That’s where you tear off hunks of fresh-baked pizza dough bread into a dip of pizza sauce and toppings. Where’s the wine?
That feeling when you think the pizza dough is rising in one oven and the other oven is preheating to 220°C, but then you realize it’s all the same oven.
