Left our hotel at dawn to take the first vaporetto of the day up the Grand Canal to where we’d left our car at Piazzale Roma. We wanted to make an early start to beat the worst of the northbound traffic in the Gotthard Tunnel to cross the Alps. Pesky mountain ranges!

Venice Trip, day 3: vaporetto to the island of Murano, glass museum, window-shopping for glass vases, glass-blowing demonstration, vaporetto to Burano, quick stroll to admire colorful houses, back to Venice, then more cicchetti for a quick light dinner, and an early evening.

Venice Trip, day 2: St Mark’s Basilica, beef tartar for lunch, Da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man at the Accademia, modern art at Peggy Guggenheim Museum, cicchetti for dinner (think Venetian tapas), the first half of Aida at the Fenice opera house, and then finally a small second dinner!
