In training

I managed to fit in 5 hikes this past week. (I’m in training to hike the Stanserhorn and then – maybe – Mt Pilatus next month.)

Yesterday we visited Giessbach Falls on Lake Brienz. It’s more of a series of falls with trails to the very top and multiple bridges crossing the flow. Hiking up to the third bridge from lake level (~300m ascent) was a good workout.

Boden-Zugerberg loop

Quick hike up the Zugerberg from Boden: 6.7km, 240m ascent, 1h30m, 12°C. Mix of farm fields with flowers and forest.

Swiss salamander

Seeing this little salamander made my day! I wonder what species it is? Seems to be the terrestrial stage of a newt.

Albishorn hike

Morning hike up the Albishorn from the Zug side: 8.6km, 470m ascent, 2h20m, 10°C. This is the third time I’ve been up the Albishorn, but the first time with clear weather.

Hiking Group: Boden-Zugerberg loop

This was my first group hike since 9 April due to Spring break, a dev conference, and other scheduling conflicts plus inertia.

This was a new route up the Zugerberg for me and could become a regular workout hike since it is close to home and neither too hard nor too easy.

Boden hiking group

The Spring flowers are out in full force in the farm fields of the Ägerital. The first part of the hike works its way up through successively higher meadows before entering the forest for the final steep(ish) push up to the top of the Zugerberg. From there we followed the ridge south for a while before descending back into the valley to return to our starting point.
