Hiked halfway up Pilatus to Aemsigen this morning. We decided to turn back there because the weather was not very good. We’ll make another attempt next week. 5.7km, 910m ascent, 2h5m, 10°C. Halfway was still the 2nd hardest hike I’ve done this year!

Scuol trip, day 2
Today we hiked between the Engadin villages of Lavin and Guarda, ate lunch in Guarda, got a tour (in German) of Tarasp Castle, dinner at a steakhouse in Scuol, then relax at the spa. I could get used to this routine of spa after hiking!
Scuol trip, day 1
Yesterday we drove to Scuol in eastern Switzerland for the 3-day weekend. We took a cable car from Scuol up to Motta Naluns, ate lunch there, then hiked down to Ftan. We had Thai for dinner then relaxed in the pools at the Bad Scuol (spa) until they closed at 10pm.
Wildspitz hike
For WWDC Day 5 I hiked up the Wildspitz, the highest mountain in Zug canton at 1,580m. 5.3km, 450m ascent, 2h, 10°C.
Hochwacht hike
For WWDC Day 4 I hiked up to Zugerberg Hochwacht. It’s a gentle grassy peak with a lovely shade tree and 360° views of Zug and Ägeri lakes. This might be a new favorite local spot! 8km, 300m ascent, 2h, 11°C.
Rigi Scheidegg
For WWDC Day 2 I hiked up to Rigi Scheidegg from Kräbel: 9km, 900m ascent, 3h10m, 20°C. Lovely day and a good training hike for Mt. Pilatus.
Höllgrotten hike
Wet rainy hike this morning in the Höllgrotten area: 7.6km, 220m ascent, 1h30m, 12°C. It made for a good test of everyone’s wet weather gear.
re: Stanserhorn hike
I hiked the Stanserhorn last October and that hike nearly broke me. 1,385m ascent is no joke! I let myself be rushed by more fit colleagues plus let myself get dehydrated. Next time I will hydrate better and walk at my own pace (probably leave ahead of the main group).
In training
I managed to fit in 5 hikes this past week. (I’m in training to hike the Stanserhorn and then – maybe – Mt Pilatus next month.)
Giessbach Falls
Yesterday we visited Giessbach Falls on Lake Brienz. It’s more of a series of falls with trails to the very top and multiple bridges crossing the flow. Hiking up to the third bridge from lake level (~300m ascent) was a good workout.
