Norway Trip, Day 3: Borderlands museum in the morning (painting by Sami artist John Savio), embark on 6 day/5 night Hurtigruten cruise at midday, quick afternoon visit to Vardøhus Fortress, the northernmost fortification in the world, and northern lights at night.
Norway Trip, Day 2: Fly to Kirkenes in the far northeast of Norway. Had hoped to maybe see the Northern Lights tonight, but the sky is completely overcast.
The ropes quickly wore grooves into the soft balsa wood logs of the Kon-Tiki raft.
The original Kon-Tiki raft as sailed by Thor Heyerdahl and his crew 6,900 km from South America to Polynesia over 101 days in 1947.
One of my favorite carvings from the Viking Ship Museum even though it’s one of the least elaborate.
Viking Ship Museum. These beautifully carved ships are around 1,200 years old! The craftsmanship is fantastic.
Norway Trip, Day 1: Fly to Oslo, Viking Ship Museum, Fram Museum, and Kon-Tiki Museum.
Morning hike: Stanserhorn. 1,385m ascent, 8.5km, 3.5h. By far the toughest hike I’ve ever done. Finishing was difficult but worth it. Beautiful weather if a bit on the warm side.
