Flem river selfie

Looking to beat the heat this weekend, on Saturday we headed to the mountains above Flims. We hiked the Trutg dil Flem, the Flims water trail, which crisscrosses the Flem river on neat footbridges. Of course it was super hot hiking out in the burning sun…

One year ago today I arrived in Switzerland. Time flies! The past year went by quickly. I really enjoy living here, especially because the pace of life is very different from in the U.S. Still, it can be tough living in a foreign country, especially one where you struggle with the language.
Much of the first year in a new place is just settling in: finding a place to live, setting up the apartment, getting a car, finding care providers, learning how things work, learning how and where to buy things, etc. The first year is always the hardest. I hope now that that’s behind us, we’ll have more time to exercise and travel both internationally and domestically.
We don’t know how long we will be here. I’d love to stay for a few more years, but that might not work out. Regardless, we hope to make the most of our time here.

To reach Stoos we had to ride the world’s steepest funicular. It’s a pretty clever piece of engineering.

Morning mountain: Stoos, only 30 minutes from home. We’ll definitely be back.

Morning Outing: Caumasee (Lake Cauma) near Flims. This was on a chilly overcast day. On a sunny day it’s supposed to be truly stunning. Air/water temps were only 15/20°C, but we had to swim anyway. Brisk! Now to mess around with NSFetchedResultsController and UICollectionView…

This hummingbird moth was very busy in this pot of flowers. In flight it looks very much like a hummingbird; at rest just like the moth that it is.
